Biography

Phyllis Mutua is a seasoned legal strategist and Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, renowned for her expertise in structuring and executing sophisticated international deals and delivering strategic legal solutions across diverse industries, and providing counsel on immigration law and Intellectual property Rights. Her expertise spans diverse industries, including Fintech, Telecommunications, Conveyancing, Employment, Finance, and Banking, with a strong emphasis on cross-border transactions and international corporate governance. She is also a skilled practitioner in Alternative Dispute Resolution, providing clients with efficient and effective solutions.

Phyllis’s career is built on a strong foundation of senior advocacy roles in reputable law firms, coupled with significant experience as a Legal advisor at Telkom Kenya Limited, and then as a Legal Specialist at WIOCC and OADC (sister companies), where she managed complex contract processes across Africa and with various international companies. This experience provided her with invaluable insights into international corporate governance, compliance, and deal structuring, notably including her role in the legal aspects of contracts between the consortium and local landing providers for the 2Africa and Equiano submarine cables, and agreements facilitating Laser Light Companies and WIOCC terrestrial and satellite internet access to underserved areas in Africa. Furthermore, she possesses significant expertise in corporate and asset acquisition transactions, including the successful legal structuring of an IFC equity investment.
